This past week my family vacationed on a quiet, spring-fed pond in New Hampshire; indeed, one spring welled up precisely where swimmers would stand if using the dock’s ladder to enter or exit the velvet water: always a brisk and bracing surprise!
Having grown up on spring-fed ponds, that sudden chill was familiar. Familiar too, yet still mysterious, wondrous, was the subsequent thrilling moment when I contemplated from whence cometh that water. To imagine water coming forth from out of the ground and beneath the water thrilled/s me. Welling Up—it’s a construct about The Source that speaks to me.
Last evening, back in Somerville, I went to a cook-out hosted by a dear, new friend—and a member of the Saint James Church’s choir. Most of the crowd milling in her back yard were also in the choir or members of her beloved church. So, naturally, before we tucked in, everyone sang “The Doxology”: Praise God from Whom all blessings flow / Praise Him All creatures here below.
Does it matter how we imagine where all blessing flow from? You say “From On High,” I say “From Within”; let’s call both crude approximations, shall we?
And praise.

Thank-you so, Patricia!!!!! I just so, so very much love and like the map featuring the Kilton Pond of Grafton. It makes me feel like I was there, too, sister! The information regarding St. James Church from that link proves to be such a great read, Patricia! Wow, was the blessed singing of the Doxology in the other link just so, so very beautiful and lovely, Patricia!!!!! Wow, Patricia, wow!!!!!! For Always I just so, so very much appreciate how you very often generously and graciously provide such informative links with your cool blog post articles, Patricia! I’m so very glad that you had such a grand time with your new friend at the cook-out who is a member of the St. James Church. Wow, what a blessedly holy experience all of you shared together in the unity of the spirit singing The Doxology before retiring for the day, sister!!!!! Wow!!!!!! Listening to the sheer, grandly magnificent beauty of The Doxology reminds me of how sometimes I miss being a member of a high church with the giant and beauteous groans of the organ. I so, so very much love and like the small, more intimate, less fancy setting of my Faith United Church of Christ here in my Iowa City, Iowa where I live and where I’ve been a member for decades, sister. Sisterfriend, I love the sweet sounds of our piano and electric organ but just sometimes I miss the grand sounds of the high church organ in all of its majesty, my so, so very dearest sister!
Sister, I’m with you on this in thinking and feeling that it doesn’t matter how we imagine where all blessings flow from!!!!! I say, “Both!,” Patricia! I think both because Spirit From On High is From Within us as we are the temples of the Great Holy Spirit Dove and like how the kingdom of God is within us as it says in the New Testament. I feel that as I envision where all blessings flow from that the blessings are From On High but also From Within because we use our Spirit-given Free Will to make our Free Choice to so, so very much love and cherish our God and loving each other as our Dearest and Darling, Sweet God’s beautiful children and sisters and brothers with blessings also flowing from all of us From Within. As we are so lovingly made in God’s image we are co-creating with Spirit with blessings flowing From On High and From Within, sister and friend of mine, Patricia!!!!!!
